Rice Krispie Treats have been the standard go to after school goodie right next to chocolate chip cookies for many Mamas as far back as I can remember and they are the staple of every church and bake sale as well. So when I became a mother, I knew that someday I too would surprise my children with these delicious gooey treats. I started with my family recipe and kept tweaking it over the years. Ultimately, I decided to come up with my own completely new recipe by adding in a little milk and vanilla and a lot more marshmallows. I’m very happy with how these have turned out and some of the best compliments have been that these “taste like the store bought ones”. My kids go crazy for these gooey goodness Rice Krispie Treats and I have not doubt yours will too.

ingredient for not your mamas Rice Krispies

Ingredients

  • 1 and a half bags of mini marshmallows (10oz bags), separated
  • 6 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 6 cups Rice Krispie Cereal

Directions

Start by slowly melting your butter in a large pan over low heat. Once melted, stir in vanilla extract, milk, and one bag of mini marshmallows.

You want to continue to stir the marshmallows and melt them slowly to get a smooth consistency.

Then once it’s smooth fold in the remaining 1/2 a bag of mini marshmallows until they start to melt slightly.

Next stir in the Rice Krispie cereal until the cereal is fully coated. I like to put parchment paper down before spreading it into a 9×13 pan for easy lift out after it has set, plus, there’s less to clean up.

Place in the refrigerator to set quicker and lift out of pan for easy cutting. These won’t last long but if they are needing to be stored, place in an airtight container up to a few days.

I love to use the Red, White and Blue Rice Krispies for Memorial Day and the 4th of July. It just gives them that extra WOW!
